Index page

The front page or index  page is the main template page for all pages in the website. It contains the menu, copyright information and any content that is duplicated across all pages in the site. On some websites there is a ‘multi-mode’ option, so that depending on which main item you choose from the landing page you get different content. This can be easily seen from comparing websites that use different ‘frameworks’ or templates for each main section or  sub-sites.

Landing Page

A splash page is a unique starting page that is tailored to a specific search term which provides an easy to follow interface for the rest of the site. Most good websites have multiple customized landing pages. The content should be minimalistic and make it easy for the user to understand what the site is about and not overwhelm them with detail. Ideally splash pages should have little or no scrolling, keeping the content ‘above the fold’ meaning you dont want the user to have to scroll downwards to get to the navigation or information that they require,
