Ecommerce website quotes

Posted on March 5th, 2012 by james  |  Comments Off

We love doing ecommerce websites and here is an example conversation to demonstrate what you may be thinking and our responses to your queries to get your ecommerce website online and earning you money.

[Giftware Company] We run a  giftware company. Trading for 1 years so we  are a new start up company based in Billericay in Essex. Can someone please contact me to discuss our requirements on a new website our product range is cufflinks and wedding accessories. We are looking at Up to 2000 products, so no restriction on pages. Will require full payment facilities. Please advise styles and costings. Examples would be good

[Delicious Webdesign] Thanks for the email and your questions. It sounds like you need a full ecommerce website, giving you full control over stock, orders, customers, prices, shipping and inventory. The ecommerce solutions we can offer you have virtually unlimited categories and products and gives you a variety of payment options, we use industry leading solutions ensuring you get a ‘search engine friendly’ ecommerce site that is easy to use and administrate.

Here is some more info on the website you require http://www.delicious-webdesign.com/ecommerce-solutions.html and http://www.delicious-webdesign.com/website-packages.html#ecommerce

Depending on other requirements your costings for this will be between £1500 – £2000.  Hope that sounds simple and easy to understand and look forward to answering any questions you may have

[Giftware Company] I’m looking at a max of £1750. I’m looking for eccomerce site for selling my giftware stuff (cufflinks, wedding stuff, etc) looking at eventually listing 2000 products, so obviously no restrictions on how many pages. would need full payment facilities using paypal  & bank cards etc..Would list all products and other information details, so that may help  reduce the workload and price. let me know what you think.

[Delicious Webdesign] As we have some spare development time coming up in a few weeks and want to allocate this time in advance, We have decided to give you a ecommerce site for £1750 but you would have to add the categories / products yourself and have to  accept less customisation and supply us with clear instructions on your specific website requirements (if you have any) including initial categories and you should agree to having paypal as your payment method and supply us with the relevant details (details of how to do this will be sent after project commences). Please complete the attached document (two formats supplied) and then pay the deposit for your ecommerce solution (deposit is normally 50% or minimum of £750 so in your case its the full payment).  Please ensure you give us your full registration address and website name you require and we can start planning your project within days. Any text (webcopy) you want to give us (about us page?) you need to supply that before the project commences.

[Giftware Company]  I’m currently looking at a few Essex website designers. I’m interested but unfortunately your price is above the budget i have set aside for a start up.  I have couple of other website quotes coming back. Would you have any sample / demos of previous sites you have done, paypal ecommerce business websites would be good?

[Delicious Webdesign] Ok hope you look at quality and SEO for the site long term instead of just cost as it may end up being a mistake, we have taken over lots of sites where the ‘cheap’ and quick builds have ended up not earning the client any money / sales for years. If it comes down purely to cost we may be able to drop if you can commit quickly to fill up our development time.

Here you go, some ecommerce websites:

www.cranberries-gifts.co.uk

www.vintagengland.co.uk

www.dollyrockerkids.co.uk

www.jaykay-blinds.co.uk

www.jk-wedding-rings.co.uk

www.kokyoto.com

These were all started within the last year, a couple are not finished just yet but hope this gives you some idea that we can produce an ecommerce gift shop for you, regadless of what you decide we would be really interested to see how you get on and if you need any advice please ask now or in the future. If we dont hear from you we wont ‘chase’ you for a decision but we simply want to keep in touch and plan our workload for the coming months and won’t be offended if you are not in a position to start the website design project just yet, but if you are, feel free to email or phone us to discuss further.

Addresses on websites

Posted on March 2nd, 2012 by james  |  Comments Off

You must comply with the law when you have a website and one of the easiest things to fall fowl to is missing off your address, to illustrate this here is the reply you get when attempting to submit a site to our business directory if you don’t put an address on your website.

Thanks for suggesting that we list your website within our directory. We list such websites where they are based, irrespective of area covered, but we can’t find this information on your website. If you ever add it, preferably by adding an address to a Contact Us page, please resubmit your website to the corresponding category. You might not be familiar with current UK legislation on this matter. We are courteously explaining  why we won’t list it in it’s current form and what you need to do to make it acceptable to us and in UK law. There’s a good summary here:

1, Include the name the company / individual that you are acting as need to be stated on the website. Its possible that this is not your trading name so you need to state that your website name is the trading name of your Limited company name.

2 You need to include your main email address. If you have a  ‘contact us’ form you need to include the email address also.

3 Your registered business address

4 If you are a limited company, the registration number needs to be given, you can check yours online at companies house website.

5 Membership details of trade or professional associations

6 Give your VAT number, if you have one

7 Prices (if given) should be stated clearly, additionally prices need to be indicated if they include or not include tax and delivery. Basically don’t hide any costs.

8 Place of registration should be stated (e.g. “Delicious Webdesign Limited is a company registered in England and Wales with company number 5858585″).

Trainee Website Designers

Posted on March 2nd, 2012 by james  |  Comments Off

Always looking for website designers with talent that want to take on demanding projects, please send us a CV with links to your previous website work and an introduction similar to this guide one:

I have been looking at your website and was wondering if you had any web designer positions (junior/ trainee) available, as i am looking into changing my career and get more into designing websites full time rather than part time which is what i do at the moment. I am currently looking to further my career in Web Designing as at the moment I am working for a company called Google, my role within this company is a production assistant but for 2 days a week I work within the sales department keeping the current website updated, i have also started designing a new website from scratch as I feel the website is quite dated.

I am very interested in Web Designing, I have passed courses in Dreamweaver, Macromedia Flash, Photoshop and I have a good knowledge of the Adobe package. I am currently learning Visual Web Developer through tutorials. Doing these courses made me want to design my own websites, which are indicated in my CV, whilst working on client sites i have gained useful knowledge. I managed to produce my websites in my spare time outside of work and now I really want to get into this full time. I am very hard worker, very punctual and an excellent communicator. I can work well within a team but can also work well individually. I like to get tasks finished in a scheduled time scale and feel i would benefit working for your company if given the opportunity

Your CV should include information like this guide CV:

August 2004- September 2004 – Employment agency: During this time I was attached to the employment agency, they placed me in a couple of administrative posts.
While in the placements I performed all aspects of an administration assistant to a very high standard which included producing spreadsheets, using their computer system, filing and answering telephone calls.

July 2002- May 2005 – Tesco: Whilst at this company I was a temporary employee working as a checkout assistant, which enabled me to complete my ICT college course. This job involved handling money, dealing with the public and giving support and advice.

Website Awards

Posted on March 2nd, 2012 by james  |  Comments Off

Its possible that once we have built your website it may win an award. Your web site project plan will include Website design and development information and ideas how to make your website more beautiful. All websites built are not automatically accepted for an award. The company we submit the completed websites to, do not under any circumstances explain individual web site decisions relating to awards.  They say they will review your submitted website as quickly as possible, however it may take several days before you recieve a decision from the Judges.  Points are awarded for overall website design, navigation, ease of usage and speed of page loading. If your website receives enough points together from each stage of the award process you will be notified accordingly.

If your website is successful you will receive a dynamic link you may place on your website pages to display your award.

Website Marketing Company

Posted on March 2nd, 2012 by james  |  Comments Off

Two years ago we got badgered by a marketing company that basically wanted resell our services, we didnt see the value in it for us as our prices are so competitive there is no room for commission. I recently re-found the notes I made from conversations and insisted that it wasn’t worthwhile having a meeting to discuss what we could do as we had nothing to proove being a successful Essex website design company, I said I personally dont see that we would achieve much with a visit as much  more would be sorted out / discovered actually doing work for your clients, we can be sent a brief spec / detailed spec or liaise with
clients directly to give them exactly what they want / need.

They told us about their Marketing Company:

We offer tailor made marketing packages to suit client needs, targeting small, local businesses that often are looking for a modern yet cost effective method of bringing their business to market. We are looking for local Web Designers who would be interested in handling the Web design part of the marketing packages that we offer. We would generate the business and provide you with a specification based on our client requirements. Our hope is that by using local Web designers we are able to operate a much more face-to-face and collaborative way of doing business.

We are looking to offer a range of packages to our clients which would include a basic, intermediate and advanced wesbite (depending on content etc). It is possible to obtain some example costings for such sites? After looking at your packages and thinking about the costings, would you be able to offer any sort of discount to us if we provided you with work on an ongoing basis? We are looking to work closely with a web designer over the next 12-18 months who would be able to handle some if not all of our work web deisgn in the near future. Is this something you would be interested in?

The visit was just to discuss in a bit more detail what we are about and what we are trying to achieve, but I guess high level you already know the sort of products/services we offer our clients.  As more work becomes available we will certainly be in touch.

After one hour they send a specification for a website similar to this:

  • Aim to deliver an online platform to market apprenticeships.
  • Create portal that employers, learners and providers can use to share profile information.
  • Communications channels including forums/message boards for posting updates and sharing best practice.
  • Document repository for providing support documents for learners/employers and providers.
  • Ensure appropriate security/access restrictions in place due to Pii.
  • Front facing website for marketing apprenticeships through video/written case studies of best practice.
  • Going forward is fully sustainable and operable by designated members of HPN via content management system.

We replied with:  Its impossible to get a meaningful appraisal of your notes about this project. What you have sent is a very high level list of ‘things’ that someone wants. We need a detailed project specification if we are to spent time and money investigating and quoting on your requirements

After getting no reply I left it in my archive folder.

The result 12 months later the company doesn’t exist and the website is down! will leave you to consider where they went wrong.

Website update or redesign

Posted on March 2nd, 2012 by james  |  Comments Off

A question posed to me by a client recently, sometimes its a tricky one but in general we like to redesign instead of ‘patch up’

Here is some dialogue that demonstrates what we can do:

Regarding the site look we think the site needs a full redesign making everything look and feel fresh and ensuring that you have a blog you can use to update yourself as well as showing your videos and music off in a much better format that doesn’t involved the client downloading your track before they play it. Your galleries should be organised / configured to make them all consistent and easy to navigate.

We have different flavours of what we can do for you depending on your budget. If you want some more detailed options I can provide them.

We could do specific tasks (website updates) on an hourly basis on conduct a complete redesign of the site to make it ‘industry standard’ and include a blog / multiple galleries / video galleries / audio player that plays each track on each recording (5 recordings of approx 15 songs)

Our standard website design package for the above would be £1299 and include everything on the premium plus package As a bonus I will include all 13 photo galleries in this price. If this sounds a lot you need to remember that every page is redesigned to industry standards will work on every browser and be optimised for the search engines making your website improve its search position and visitor numbers, we also work 1 month on the site after its built to ‘polish’ it ensuring it ranks as highly as possible after the redesign.

The music recordings may add to the cost above depending on our investigations on how to best put them on your site. We have embedded audio within websites before but need to check its viable to such a lot of recordings and how it will look / operate.
