Has your Website Designer stopped trading ?

Posted on July 14th, 2010 by James  |  Comments Off

This is a pretty rare occurrence as if a website designer / hosting company stops trading they should have sold their company including their clients to another company that agrees to continue the hosting arrangement with existing clients. If you have a .co.uk domain you will be glad to know there is a simple solution out of your predicament. Here are the standard details we sent to new clients if they contact us after their website designer has disappeared or gone out of business.

To begin the transfer process, you will need to do two things:

1, phone / email Nominet to explain that your website designer has gone out of business and you want to transfer to us (they charge £10 for this service)
You will need to tell them to update your IPS tag to ENOM
This will enable us to transfer your site / email

to contact Nominet by their website >> http://www.nominet.org.uk/registrants/contactme
or via Telephone: +44(0)1865 332244 (Lines open 8am – 6pm)
or Email: nominet@nominet.org.uk

2, pay the yearly hosting fee, if you want us to make changes on the website you can give us a full list and we will confirm the changes are viable and will give you a quote, we sometimes suggest other changes / improvements that you may not have spotted.

Website updates are performed on a hourly support cost basis and you will be glad to know we are quick and efficient at these. We have already got the source code of your website to enable us to start any work immediately.

Things to bear in mind
You will need to re-setup your email (if you use an email client like outlook / windows live mail / mail) full instructions will be given, normally this takes only a few minutes. If you access your mail via the web (webmail) you will be given a website address where you can access your email with your username (email address) and password which we supply.

The transfer may take a day or two to begin and your site maybe down for a few minutes during the swap over.

Once you have contacted Nominet and they have confirmed the transfer phone or email us to tell us this so we can continue the transfer process.

Website Hosting

We have just upgraded and renewed our reseller hosting plan and having been very fortunate to have experienced near perfect service / uptime and fault-finding from one of our hosting companies we decided to renew with them and upgrade to give us more flexibility for our clients.

Hosting is often not the first thing our clients ask about but I make a point to tell them that their site will be on a server within its target market’s country, which is usually the UK for most of our clients, this helps website speed and SEO as well the knowledge that they have UK based staff and a guaranteed 99.9% uptime for their website from an Award winning company.

Additionally the hosting that they will be put on is flexible enough to offer Linux or Windows hosting and to offer databases for website options like a WordPress Blog or a Joomla CMS system or possibly they may want to upgrade their website to be a full ecommerce website at a later date. If that is the case the hosting has the flexibility to offer everything that is needed for the future.

The budget hosting options that are available are simply not good enough for our needs and as such all new clients of Delicious Webdesign will be given, as standard, powerful, local and flexible hosting from an award winning company.

New Website Performance

Posted on July 6th, 2010 by James  |  Comments Off

Commonly for business brochure websites, that are brand new websites as opposed to redesigns, we get asked what to expect in terms of performance / business inquiries, here is a recent reply I gave to a client who asked me how his website is doing compared with other new launched websites.

I would say the site is doing better than expected seeing its brand new, the search engines know you are new and don’t take much notice of you to start with normally. Your rankings are not ‘firm’ to begin with normally and you can be bounced all over the place in the first months.

Needless to say you are doing the right thing by using PPC advertising and that is bringing you quite a number of valuable visitors in the last 30 days. New sites simply take time to get ‘noticed’ and ranked accordingly but rest assured cream always rises to the top.

Check this recent post I made to show how our websites move up the search engines
http://www.delicious-webdesign.com/blog/search-engine-optimisation/161

just noticed that you are number 11 for a competitive term already, after the website was launched only 3 months ago, this is a national / UK wide search term and a good sign of things to come.

The website is going to be around for a long time and earn you lots of business but you are up against loads of established websites / companies so its going to be slow to start with, here are some tips you can follow to improve your site and its search engine ranking:

1, keep posting on your blog.
2, ask friends / contact that have websites to get a link to your site.
3, post on more forums and have your website as your ‘signature’ and try to mention your site if possible.
4, get testimonials from clients and give them to us to regularly update your site.
5, Send us new photos for your photo galleries
